PRPS jeans are created by Akademiks, a New York-based clothing company founded in partnership by a former top Nike designer, Donwan Harrell. Donwan, being a denim fanatic, began the PRPS project, which is one of Donwan's biggest projects. The price of PRPS jeans begins at $250 USD a pair.

PRPS jeans are manufactured in Japan, unlike other jeans which are mostly manufactured in China. The Japanese manufacturer of the jeans uses looms from the 1960s similar to the type that were used to produce denim for Levi's. Modern looms are more efficient in the amount of material used, however, the older, classic looms produce a stronger edge to the fabric, (two reasons for the increased price in denim when older looms are used.)

Harrell says that the manufacturing process was inspired by denim worn by workers before it became popular as an everyday fashion. Harrell says that the production for one pair of jeans costs about $95+.
